What is an LPC or LMFT Associate?
An LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) or LMFT (Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist) Associate is a highly trained post-graduate counselor. They have completed a rigorous Master’s program in Professional Counseling, and received comprehensive instruction in counseling techniques, assessments, and diagnostic proficiencies. They have also accumulated over 300 hours of counseling experience seeing a variety of clinical concerns.
Additionally, Associates have passed one or more of the following licensure exams: National Counselor Exam, National Clinical Mental Health Counselor Exam, Association of Marital and Family Therapy Regulatory Boards National Licensing Exam. Texas requires Associates to accrue 3,000 more hours (typically within 2-5 years) while receiving supervision from a LPC or LMFT Supervisor. During supervision, Associates may confidentially discuss your case. This means that when you see one of our Associates, you not only receive the knowledge, experience, and proficiency of your primary Counselor but also the skills and expertise of your Associate’s Supervisor!
Is an LPC or LMFT Associate qualified to help me?
Yes! The Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors declares Associate Therapists as equip with enough education and experience to provide beneficial services to clients. These counselors have already studied and rendered a variety of psychotherapy practices for years prior to seeing you. With fresh knowledge and clinical prospectives, they offer valuable therapeutic services!
